STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The College of Staten Island unveiled its new Innovation Hub on Friday, creating a high-tech space where students and community members can develop skills in emerging technologies, build connections and bring ideas to life.

The hub, located inside the Lighthouse Point development in St. George, will provide students and entrepreneurs access to frontier technologies like AI, robotics and augmented reality.

The space will also offer real-world training and hands-on mentorship to help prepare participants for careers in growing industries.

Attendees included CSI staff members, community members, and local officials, including Councilmember Frank Morano, Staten Island Economic Development Corporation President Michael Cusick and Staten Island Chamber of Commerce President Linda Barron.

“This is a major step forward for our students, our borough and for our role as an anchor institution on Staten Island,” College of Staten Island President Dr. Timothy Lynch said.

Funding for the Innovation Hub included an estimated $1.8 million from the Downtown Revitalization Initiative and $2 million from the New York City Council, with a total of $3.85 million.

Lynch said the creation of the hub aligns with CUNY’s mission by expanding access to real-world learning and pathways to emerging industries.

“These funds helped create a space where ideas move from concept to execution and

where education, industry and community come together,” he said.

Key stakeholders also shared their thoughts on the hub.
